Toothless Bear was made for a friend who had pretty much all of his teeth taken out, in one go.
This friend is what's known here in Oz as a Hard Man.
When (after the operation), I asked (his interpreter) if there was anything I could do to cheer him up, he (apparently) wooffled in response that "A bear would be good".
Even Hard Men need a bear now and again.
(although, as one insightful blogger has observed, he may, in fact, have been pleading for a beer)
