I think I might love these buttons more than any other in my collection (which is really saying something). But, try as I might, I cannot fully capture the Mother of Pearl inlay on camera, to show you.

The sunburst design seems to result from stencilling with black paint over pearl, which strikes me as unusual. I'm guessing that they're probably 1920s, definitely Deco, and I found them at a Craft Fair in NYC, about 15 years ago. I've been carting them around (along with most of the planet) from house to house, ever since.
I guess they've finally found their Special Purpose.
