Not content with having a craft overload, and a co-authorial position with Popplina, I have started a new project that, with any luck, won't be finished for a very long time.

The Craftorialist is a new blog of inspirations, instructions, pictures and patterns, in which I share my technical expertise with anyone interested in textile-based craft. It's brand new, so there's only a few posts to see right now, but I will keep adding to it over time.

Battle Ready

A long haul trip takes a certain amount of mental preparation. Especially if it's going to be interstate and/or over 10 hours. My adrenalin levels increase, and I anti-relax. Not something I do consciously, just the body preparing itself to stay awake, a kind of autonomic powering up. It's what makes me a good long-distance driver or, alternatively and without a strong yoga practise, a complete lunatic.

I have spent most of the last month in this state of readiness, under the (mistaken) impression that I really will be leaving, most definitely, for sure, the next day. Or so they keep telling me.

Only then I don't.

It's not a relaxing way to live, let me tell you.

On the upside, quarantine ends today for the Creative Genius, and there is no sign of Swine Flu.

Which comes as No Great Surprise,

 

but is still good news.

Oh, and I have been crafting, a little. In a Finishing Things Off kind of way.

Very occasionally, and for the briefest moment,

before the guilt-weight of bohemian single-parenting settles back on my shoulders,

I get this glimmer that I must be doing something right,

because not only is my daughter a surprisingly well-adjusted, gentle, and compassionate person,

she's also the coolest, most artistic 14 year-old I've ever met.

In such moments, I could die happy,

knowing that my baby will live on, carrying the power

to blow every motherfucker away at will.

Starting with the teachers and students at New School, who have already sat up and taken notice,

exempting her from routine classwork until she had finished this piece.

Such was their respect.

Bless them.

We have a house application pending. I should have an answer in the next 48 hours.

   

Now, I won't lie about this. I'm a bit stressed.

And I just want you all to know, for those who think I'm an Exemplary Mother,

that I made everyone in the house cry, this morning,

for no good reason, other than that I am a Satan-Spawned Bitch from Hell.

 

 

Even the dog isn't speaking to me.
